So I wanted to highlight a friend of mine on my blog by reposting his Mormon.org profile. Ryan Bills is serving as a full time missionary like me in the same area but he works with Spanish speakers and I work with those who speak English and/or American depending on their grammar and word choice.
Ryan and I have been able to serve around each other and get to know each other and I admire him for lots of different things but his love for the Savior and commitment to Him is one of the top ones. I hope you enjoy his witness and testimony.
I am so blessed to be serving a mission in probably the most beautiful areas of the world. There is everything here! I love to be around nature and feel small. It is good to feel small sometimes. Keep in mind that feeling small and feeling loved are not mutually exclusive. I know that I am loved and know that I am small. Those feelings live together in harmony actually.
From the scriptures we know that we are small. Moses taught us this when he said, “And it came to pass that it was for the space of many hours before Moses did again receive his natural strength like unto man; and he said unto himself: Now, for this cause I know that man is nothing, which thing I never had supposed.”
In the scriptures we also know that we are loved by God. Nephi, a Book of Mormon prophet taught us this. “And I said unto him: I know that he loveth his children; nevertheless, I do not know the meaning of all things.”
As we go about our day-to-day lives I would invite you to remember to be humble and “small” in the eyes of eternity but never forget that you are loved. Our Heavenly Father is anxious and waiting to be apart of your life. Fostering a relationship with the Supreme Being of the Universe takes work but when trust is built, blessings will flow from Him who guides and directs all of his creations.
I know these things are true and invite you to learn more. I leave this with you in the name of Jesus Christ, amen.
“Now, we will compare the word unto a seed. Now, if ye give place, that a seed may be planted in your heart, behold, if it be a true seed, or a good seed, if ye do not cast it out by your unbelief, that ye will resist the Spirit of the Lord, behold, it will begin to swell within your breasts; and when you feel these swelling motions, ye will begin to say within yourselves—It must needs be that this is a good seed, or that the word is good, for it beginneth to enlarge my soul; yea, it beginneth to enlighten my understanding, yea, it beginneth to be delicious to me.” –Alma chapter 32, verse 28.
I love this scripture so much. It’s pure, simple and true. I have thought a lot about the conversion process and just expounding on comparing the word of God like unto a seed. I know that when a person truly has that desire to plant and nurture this seed of the Gospel that they will find and be able to see the marvelous fruit that can only be experienced if we plant and nurture that seed. There is no grocery store where we can buy this fruit prepackaged and ready to eat. This has to be homegrown and patiently cultivated. I know that there are all types of “gardeners” out there. Some people just water the soil by praying, others just turn the soil over occasionally with some scripture reading, but I know that the most satisfied and accomplished gardeners are the ones who go about their gardening experiment using all wholesome ways of nurturing the seed have the best results and find the most joy and peace. I would invite you to learn more and cultivate and tend your plants with care. These things I leave with you in the name of Jesus Christ, amen.
I took this photo while I was on exchanges in Dixon a couple months ago. It was a wonderful view of the sun just bursting up over the mountains bright beaming colors of yellow and orange. I was lucky enough to get a beautiful photo to remind me of the wonderful small town feel of Dixon and it’s beautiful country lifestyle. I love sunsets and sunrises. They are special to me for many reasons. Some more sentimental than others but they are all near and dear to me.
I am always reminded of how beautiful this world is and how it is all set up in the cosmos. To create a planet with an atmosphere that can radiate so many colors every day is truly wonderful. Too many things are set into motion, so preciously placed to be by chance. There is a Divine Creator and He happens to be our Eternal Father. He knows and loves us by name and created the cosmos for us to marvel and always remember Him by. Let us look towards the beauty of the earth and truly see how we can see our Heavenly Fathers love.
I know he is there. He loves me. He loves you and will always love you. These things I leave with you in the name our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, amen.
